Rear-End Collisions
Rear-end collisions are the most common type of car wreck in Colorado. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a rear-end collision happens in the United States every 8 seconds. Rear-end collisions can cause a wide range of injuries, from whiplash – a sudden jerking motion to the head – to serious knee injuries – caused by an impact of the knee against the dashboard. But these collisions may also cause even more serious injuries, like traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, shoulder tears, or even facial injuries from impact with the steering wheel or airbag.
Rear-end collisions are most commonly caused by distracted drivers, whether they were looking for a turn on their GPS app, texting, checking emails and social media sites, or even talking on Bluetooth. Many rear-end collisions also occur on the highway, usually a result of following too closely in traffic or at too high a speed. Especially on a highway in Colorado traffic, drivers must leave plenty of room for unexpected stops in order to avoid a collision. Drivers are expected to maintain focus and distance to endure they have enough time to safely come to a stop.
Securing the True Value of Your Claim
As simple as this may seem, insurance companies often find arguments for not compensating someone injured in a rear-end collision. People who file an injury claim from this type of accident, and who are not represented by an attorney, are often met with denials and accusations. Many times, insurance adjusters deny valid claims, accusing the injured party of stopping too quickly or contributing in some other way to the collision. Additionally, they will undercut the value of the claim or try a “split the baby” approach, stating that they will pay a percentage of the claim as an offer of “good faith.”
